Blogust

August Blogest. Augblog. Something like that.

So this last month sucked! I got laid off! I know I'm going to be alright in the end but man that sucks. Stinks. It's no good. I dislike it. Lucky I've had many kind and helpful friends giving me a hand and I've got resources, skills, etc etc. But man! I don't like it!!

I really don't want to have a whole thing complaining about searching for a new job here, though, because it will just feel gross to look back on. To ignore it would be silly for what is ostensibly a blog. It's tough. I haven't done a lot else, you know? So what if I talked about some of the upside?

I'm a programmer by trade, that most lamentable state of being. I even have worked primarily in Java, a fate worse than anything conceivable. Working a job for nine years, there was plenty of variety, but not so much that it isn't a little stale by the end. Thus, this has been an opportunity to remember that I like messing with computers. There are all these different interesting tools and techniques for doing it, and I've been diving back into touching some things that I haven't touched in a while, like C#, and also some new things like Rust. Building even just a stupid little tool that has no real purpose is nice because creating is wonderful. Writing a little bespoke script to perform a minor task, even if I just use it once, is very satisfying. I've done that with Python quite a few times since it has nice text processing abilities. And since humanity has already invented wedges and pullies the only way to make a new tool is for it to be really specific. I like programming puzzle games for this reason, but I haven't tried a lot of them yet. Maybe I'll fall into a Zachtronics hole before long.

Oh and I think I'd been making below par amounts of money at my previous position so maybe I'll get more at the new one who knows. That'd be nice.

But yeah, that's my month! It stinks, life goes on, etc. I think it's fine to have a short one of these though. Please, have a nice month, all you people.
